Re: Kodi website down?

"All the others" ? Their host forced them to upgrade to a better plan because they were using too much bandwidth... I'm a big fan of Kodi myself. It's how I access all my media after using Plex to grab metadata for it, including all of my recordings from C-band satellite! There's been some great con...

Re: Solid dishes

My experience has been the opposite and I favour mesh dishes for backyard enthusiasts like ourselves because they are lighter and easier to operate. I've been using a 12 ft classic paraclipse mesh dish for over 3 decades now without any problems. I also got a 12 ft mesh dish gifted to me by tek2000...

Re: Solid dishes

I've never used a slewing drive. Do you have a link to a suggested model that would work with your commercial antennas? Would you still be able to punch in a position to a positioner and the satellite move to a specific orbital location with these drives just like it works now with an actuator/HH mo...

Re: mpeg 4.2.2

This software is TSReader and all you need is to install a tuner card in your PC. Any of these should work well according to your needs: https://www.tbsdtv.com/products/tbs-dvb-s2-tv-tuner-pcie.html There are a variety of PC programs which may provide you with a friendlier interface to tune satellit...

Re: ABC migrating to HEVC (4:2:2) today

I see you have 13 intel cores clocked at 4 GHz and a GeForce RTX 2080 Ti. Your GeForce RTX also has over 4,000 CUDA cores which are being used to perform HEVC (4:2:2) in software. Can you do me a favor and decode ABC HEVC (4:2:2) on 99W or 95W and show me your CPU% and GPU%? How much did all that c...

Re: mpeg 4.2.2

Why not just use an HDMI cable from your PC? Get a fiber optic one if it's really far away. I have my main PC connected to two separate 4K TVs in different rooms and am able to control it fully from other rooms using wireless mouse/keyboard/remotes. You can use fiber optic HDMI to deliver full 4:4:4...

Re: How much are you willing to pay for a consumer h.264 and hevc (4.2.2) capable STB?

I've also seen 10 bit H.264 feeds. I know it's a given with HEVC but it'd be important to have 10 bit support for H.264 too if you're trying to make a box that can do everything. How much is Dolby charging for the license to include Dolby E decoding capability in IRDs these days? Also, how about the...

Solid dishes

So I've been trying to source another commercial dish at least 12 feet in diameter or preferably even larger. I consulted with DH but they only had a solid one piece antenna available so that would require renting a crane and getting a crane operators license and renting a forklift and all sorts of ...

Re: ABC migrating to HEVC today

HEVC hasn't really been a problem to decode since Pascal when Nvidia implemented hardware decoding for 4K HEVC. My current Nvidia Turing-based GPU can play back 60 FPS, 8K HEVC video @ 80 Mbps just fine. They implemented hardware decoding for 8K HEVC with the RTX 2000 series. The 4:2:2 hasn't been ...
