It looks like your soup can is picking up Sirius XM Satellite Radio.

fatso,

You win the cupie doll....... right on !

It was my birthday yesterday ( I'm 69 ) so I gave myself an XM Satellite receiver.

I thought I'd take a look at their signal on the spectrum analyzer with my S band set-up.

All,

In case your interested that device that says Gardiner is an S band LNB.
Input: 2.3 to 2.7 Ghz.
Output: 950 to 1350 Mhz.
L.O.: 3650 Mhz.
Gain: 65 dB
Noise Temp: 50K

The feed horn is a 1.0 lb coffee can. It actually has +12.0 dB gain @ 2.4 Ghz.
The dimensions of the can determine the illumination of the dish. This feed is
5in. x 6in. which works well for F/D of 0.4. My dish is .375.

I can't imagine what he uses to survey the L-Band? :thinking An empty paint can, perhaps? :toofunny

Seriously foxcreek, you need a 12 footer (or larger) to do some serious investigating. Multi-axis motorization is a must. Since you like changing between the bands, what I would do is construct (buy) different feeds, mount them on rails and bring the appropriate feed to the convergence region somehow using motorized wheels while the other feeds remain outside the dish aperture (like an electric train set).

Hey Foxcreek,

Have you messed with the ka band yet? I hear there is quite a bit of activity in that band...

elko,

Yeah I have a 60cm dish with a Ka band LNB pointed at 99W.
This is one of the Direct TV Ka birds ( reverse band too ).
DTV has a unique data stream so you can't get a lock.
You sure can see the TP's on a spectrum analyzer though
their pretty hot because their concerned about rain fade at
Ka band. I see lots of activity here above 21.0 Ghz also ( I'm
talking 18.0 dB + C/N ) internet stuff.

I'm using a Technomate TM5402 HD M3 CI Sat. receiver ( which
has Ka band capability ). The LNB is an Inverto with RHCP /LHCP
polarization with the 13.0 - 18.0 volt protocol.

Thanks for the offer foxcreek, but I'm all tapped out right now from holiday shopping. May take you up on the offer in the new year! Besides dtv, dish (???) subs, are there any other ka signals out there? Any linear ka? For most of us, the ka band is pretty much invisible right now. :verysad
