PBS leaving C-band on Mar. 04, 2019

Post by tvroadmin » Mon Feb 18, 2019 11:03 am

Too bad, so sad. You can still catch the east/west coast feeds of PBS on 125W (ku band), but I believe they have lowered the power on those transponders to save money. I'm registering a good -3dB less S/N than before. You'll probably need a minimum 1.2m offset dish for these now. If you have a 10ft or 12ft dish with c/ku LNBF, you should be okay too.

PBS is like a poor family that has to choose between eating or heating the house. They have chosen to turn down the thermostat on 125W for now.

It's funny. Because it cost more to use ku over c band.
So I guess a lot of people who use OTA are going to lose it to. Because the systems that to our re broadcast is from c band. It was a matter of time. There programs have gotten better but I guess not good enough.

you can also get LPBS on SES 2 Ku Band 11811 H DVB-S2 11150-3/5 8PSK
Also has Create and PBS kids on it. I get PBS OTA But like the Satellite feeds because sometimes there is better programming on. like the stuff on the 125west feeds.
I get mine with a small dish in a bucket and a Shaw Dish pointed at 125west

Those 125W feeds are still pretty strong on a 90cm here. I have one stationary at 125W just for them.

Also, the Ku PBS feeds have always been better quality than the C feeds.

Even though you'll have to deal with rain fade now it's not a big deal since PBS airs multiple repeats throughout the week. I've always been able to find an airing without rain.

Is LPBS on 87w still active? No signal for me but my ku sidecar may need some tweaking.
