Welcome to TVROSat
This forum is about all things related to TVRO Satellite Reception in North America!
First, TVRO is an abbreviation for "Television Receive-Only". It simply refers to the technology and equipment used to receive unencrypted and encrypted satellite signals in geostationary orbit using a C-Band satellite dish.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TVRO
Second, practically every TV channel in North America that is available through cable/DBS subscription or otherwise, originates as a high-bandwidth master signal on TVRO satellite. This includes all international channels.
Third, backhaul feeds for live events, including sports, news, weather or whatever else are all available on TVRO satellite.
If you are new to TVRO, you probably never even heard of the term let alone ever considered scanning the sky for these elusive TV signals. That's okay - the purpose of this forum is to shed some light on the secret world of TVRO!
Whether you just want to watch TV or learn a new hobby, we hope you enjoy your stay here!

Re: Welcome to TVROSat
Thanks for the welcome ! Will certainly try to be here for a long time to come. This does appear like it's going to be a super hobby for this old, retired mechanic!!
Back again! Has been an unbelievable spring/summer. Between forest wildfires in our area, evacuation notice, etc , wasn't able to get anything done on our new system, but now maybe will get it done before winter.
Did get pole cemented in and straight up and down, now to lay cables etc.

Re: Welcome to TVROSat
Thank you for allowing me to be a member. I am a retired HVACR tech and have been in the FTA Satellite hobby for about 15 years.
I started out not knowing anything about the FTA stuff. I began with a small Ku stationary dish, and thru the years have advanced
to a 39" Ku H to H dish and receiver. On the C band side I have 2 10' BUDs...1 mesh and 1 solid , both are motorized.
I thank everyone on this forum for all the great information you are willing to share with the rest of us! ! !

Re: Welcome to TVROSat
Hello everyone,
I have had Ku FTA for 8 or 9 years. My dish is pointed at Galaxy 19. I recently became interested in C band. I was able to find a 10 foot mesh dish about a mile and a half from my house. The man wasn't using the dish and told me that I could have it! I got three friends and we moved the dish to my house. I set the pipe perfectly plumb and had these help me mount it. The LNBF was analog so I purchased one from Rick along with a new actuator. I was thankful to discover this site as I really need some assistance.
I live in New Hampshire.
