Elon fires 60 more satellites into LEO

Post by rusty » Tue Feb 18, 2020 1:23 am

This sure is getting interesting. They are building a LEO constellation of satellites for broadband. The end user will install a flat smart antenna on their house and establish 2-way communications with the satellites passing overhead. They are using ku and ka spectrum. Communications will be encrypted like dth satellite.

I can't see why they won't offer TV service along with broadband using this technology. If Elon succeeds, the 5G stuff could be dead in the water.

This has nothing to do with 5G (marketing name) in purposes, bandwidth or frequency.

I know. 5G sounds like child's play when compared to STARLINK.

It is going to be a global constellation with over 30,000 mini satellites! Broadband access anywhere on the planet with a small pizza sized smart antenna pointing straight up. Why would anyone need 5G? Why would anyone need a land line internet connection? Why would anyone need a cable or traditional satellite tv provider?
