Encrypted OTA channels

Post by jamsonic1 » Wed Dec 24, 2014 8:03 pm

I'm not sure if this affects all areas but the Ion affiliate in Phoenix has three encrypted (with Nagravision 3) channels they are Starz, Showtime and Airbox. The big question is why are they broadcasting when there's no service available for them and I know they are not broadcasting for Cox the only cable service in the Phoenix area.

I think what you are seeing is the mux on 4040H-30000 on 103W (AMC1).

I am not sure why they are broadcasting encrypted channels OTA. Perhaps the intended recipients are hotels, bars, and other commercial establishments with proper decoding equipment?

Interesting! Got to remember that "pay" tv orginated with "free"tv,by providing TV to people who could not recieve TV with a regular tv antenna. In present day, AERO tried the same thing and got their hands slapped by the major net,s! It was a different time back then and the major net,s wanted everyone to recieve their signal. OTA will probably have scrambled ch's that can be purchased as distrubution grows. Jess out in California

I followed AERO with some curiosity over the last couple of years. For a second there, I thought the little guy was going to make some progress and offer a new and innovative way of receiving locals, but alas, I was proven a fool once again.

It will be the same with Rainier Satellite - they won't get off the ground!
