Bell Satellite TV Card Swap Begins (2018)

Post by dsat » Wed May 30, 2018 10:02 pm

If you subscribe to Bell Satellite TV, you will be receiving a new smart card soon. All receivers are showing CHAN. 794 which is information on the smart card upgrade.

Why are they upgrading smart cards if they are not hacked?????? :sinister

Bell is probably just performing upgrades for future 4K/UHD. Here is a link:

I went over to my friends house and he showed me his set up. With his illegal stream, he gets all U.S. Channels and all Canadian channels. Every channel on Bell is open with his streaming device, including all big-ticket sports package. All in Crystal Clear 1080P with no buffering. The one he has is openly sold online. How the hell are they not getting busted? I don't understand this. Whover the hell is running Bell should be fired for mass stupidity. :kook :retarded

They are migrating to Nagra 4 to stop iptv piracy. Claro did it last year

https://www.telecompaper.com/news/claro ... 4--1178272

Bell is doing it now and Dish will probably do it next year.

But who cares? We are c band enthusiasts and won't be affected. :biggrin

The Supreme Court of Canada fined Bell $141 million in 2015 over their out-of-control piracy problem:

Supreme Court upholds lower court decision ordering Bell to pay Videotron and TVA Group $141 million for failing to prevent satellite signal piracy

They are probably being sued again. Like I said, my friend gets all Bell channels from Canada for $5 / month.

There is no 4K content on Bell Satellite. Only Bell Fibe (IPTV) offers 4K content. They are probably planning to do away with their satellite division and move everyone to IPTV just like AT&T / DirecTV. Within 5 years, the only satellite services available will probably be Dish (if they don't go bankrupt) and C-band. There are already several unscrambled full-time 4K channels on C-Band.

With everyone moving to IPTV and conditional access to programming controlled by remote servers (no smart cards needed), I wonder what will become of outfits like Nagra? :byebye

It sounds like all the corps are moving to iptv to save money. No more hardware dealers. No more installers. No more trucks. No more uplink engineers. No more security vendors. No more salesmen. No more customer service. No more middle men. Just a dumb app and nothing more. :verysad

Sound familiar? They did this to the TVRO industry in the early 90s and destroyed it. They are doing it to the small dish industry now. DirecTV, Dish and Bell installers should become independent contractors and do c-band dish installations only. A complete 10-ft c-band dish is only $1000 shipped. Add another $500 for the install and your customers will have free-tv for life. Get the word out in your area and you can count on 3-5 installs per week. The trend these days is toward free-tv since most can no longer afford pay-tv. :verysad

Let the mega corps choke on their own greed. :agree

It sounds like the new smart cards from Bell are "anyMark" ready. This will put an end to all the illegal streaming.

In a move that it says paves the way for Ultra HD content licensing, NAGRA has launched anyMARK, a secure framework for implementing, controlling and updating watermarking technologies.

Together with other enhanced content protection requirements recommended by MovieLabs, the research and development joint venture started by the six major motion picture studios, NAGRA believes that watermarking is poised to become one of several key technologies that will enable pay-TV service providers to acquire rights to exclusive, high value content like Ultra HD, and better track, and shut down illegal redistribution of exclusive linear content, like live sports.

Applicable for both company-proprietary and third-party solutions, anyMARK is designed to ensure that the watermarking software is implemented according to the NAGRA Advanced Security Certification (NASC) guidelines to protect it from tampering while guaranteeing a consistent implementation across set-top box models.

The solution is also controlled by the NAGRA anyCAST Security Services Platform (SSP) for the selective application of the watermark to the desired content. Its watermarking algorithm can also be securely updated by the NAGRA anyCAST SSP if required in order to stay one step ahead of content pirates. Kudelski Security – whose team of 150-plus security and anti-piracy experts has more than 20 years of experience in fighting pay-TV piracy – will also provide the forensic monitoring, investigation and response services to track down illegally distributed premium content and have it removed.

Commenting on the launch, Sam Rosen, practice director TV & video at ABI Research, said: "NAGRA is taking a secure system-level approach to Ultra HD content, including watermarking ... NAGRA is partnering with established watermarking companies, who have established trust with video content providers, and adding value through secure implementation and control of the watermarking system at the front-end, and forensic tracking services at the back end. We believe this approach – when implemented together with other MovieLabs requirements - will ensure pay-TV providers can license the highest value content for their broadcast and on-demand services."

So with Nagra 4 they will be able to watermark the video with a unique ID that will tell them, when viewing a pirate stream, the identity of the subscriber leaking the feed. There is a simple way to defeat it.... you have 2 subscribed Dish receivers with totally different accounts. When requested they would each display their own unique ID somewhere randomly on the screen.... ok so you take the video feed from the 2 different accounts into a computer that would compare the 2 feeds for anything different between the two ... if it sees anything different in the video it could then mask it making it impossible to see the ID in the watermark. This is my own concept, it's never been tested but it should work.

This is NOT Nagra 4. It is still Nagra 3, but they are migrating G3 cards to G4. The G3 card has a flaw that permits mass IKS (internet key sharing). All current pirate IKS/IPTV services (Dish, Bell, Claro) are based around the G3 card. The session key algorithm in the G3 card is the same one used by Nagra 2 (stupid, stupid, stupid!!!), and as we know, Nagra 2 was hacked to shreds, which led to mass FTA piracy (2005 - 2009). The G4 card uses a different session key algorithm and unless Nagra 3 is hacked, it is impossible to share control words if the session key is unknown.

The migration to G4 is almost complete, which is why IKS/IPTV piracy is drying up. Right now, all premium, PPV and most HD channels are using the newer G4 smartcard. The G4 smartcard migration will be complete by all providers later this year. :sweating
