ABC Feeds transitioning to HEVC 4:2:2 this summer

...
Good news and bad news.

First the good news. They will look awesome. And if they are in 1080p or 4K, even better. :bigsmile

Now the bad news. We won't know how great they look because there are no consumer decoders available for viewing such signals. Commercial decoders cost over $4000! :reallyangry

ABC feeds affected are those on Galaxy 16 and 3C.

Hello,

Any chance we can have a solution made in the USA, or am I missing something?

$4000.00 US is a wee bit too steep,

Why all the doom and gloom? If ABC is transitioning to HEVC, it almost certainly means they will start transmitting in 4K. And if ABC does it, so will CBS, NBC, CW and the avalanche to 4K content will begin. Most of us already own HEVC/4K receivers and I'm sure a workaround will be found for 4:2:2.
