Any interest in large solid dishes?

Post by tek2000 » Thu Jun 23, 2016 4:02 am

Is there any consumer interest whatsover in 10ft and 12ft solid dishes?

These types of dishes are extremely heavy and cost a lot of money to fabricate. The 10ft solid dish would cost $1200 USD and the 12ft will cost over $2000 USD. They weigh 250 lbs and 375 lbs respectively. They would be also be motorized (azimuth/elevation) and you would have to purchase the controllers. Actuators would probably snap off! :biggrin

Delivery will be by truck, adding to the overall cost.

We currently only stock 8ft solid dishes and were looking for feedback on larger sizes. Please contact us if you are interested.

Probably not worth it in my opinion...if someone is going to shell out $2 - $3k for a 12-foot solid, they may as well buy a couple of 12-foot mesh dishes or even a monster 16-foot mesh!

That could be if you live in a mild climate.
I'm using a 12 footer made and installed around '82. Very well made one at that. About 1/4" space on crossed string line at 90 degrees in several places.
I see 10 foot mesh dishes that old that are in sad shape. You may even be sipping your next can of beer from one.
To grab a few more sats east of vertical I grabbed a truck hood spring and covered steel cable to add a little tension where dish flop happened.
Signal on 127W is 16.5-17dB. Pretty good bang for your buck. Not bad huh!

All,

10' and 12' solid c-band antennas are now available in our store:

10' Solid Fixed (Az-El) Mount

12' Solid Fixed (Az-El) Mount

These are fixed mount (az-el) mount. To motorize the elevation, you need either a 24" or 36" heavy-duty actuator. To motorize the azimuth, you need our 7" slew drive with appropriate collar mount. You also need a commercial type adjustable feed and Sky Tracker controller.

Thanks for your continued support!

I would consider a 10 foot if it could survive golf ball size hail. Mesh is too easily damaged.

All,

We still have some mesh 15 footers if anyone is interested. This dish is a beast, with a dual ring support mount and 12 mesh panels. You need a 7 inch pipe to mount it. They are well built, which is why I have already stored one in the garage for my own personal use!

Actual 15ft dish below

When assembled, will look something like this
