1.0: Introduction

Linux/Enigma 2 based receivers can be flashed with different images. Every firmware image has its strengths and weaknesses and the different images are developed by different groups of people. Although the basic features are mostly the same across all development platforms, some specialized features or plugins may only be available in certain images, so it is worthwhile to know how to properly flash your receiver with a different image.

1.1: Procedure for Flashing a Linux Receiver

1) Download the image you want to flash. For the ZGemmaH7 4K receiver, the latest firmware updates can be downloaded from:

OpenATV
http://images.mynonpublic.com/openatv/n ... n=zgemmah7

OpenPLI
https://openpli.org/download/zgemma/H7

OpenATV and OpenPLI are two development groups that produce stable firmware images for a wide variety of Enigma 2 receivers, including the ZGemma series of receivers. Although other images from other developers may work, you should refrain from using them unless you are absolutely certain that they are stable and won't brick your receiver. Check the development forums for feedback on your particular receiver before flashing with such an image.

2) Unzip the download and copy the "zgemma" folder to a USB memory stick. It is important that the "zgemma" folder is in the top directory of your USB and named "zgemma". If the file is in another directory or named differently, the receiver may not flash.

3) Plug the USB stick into the receiver with the power off.

4) Before turning the power on, you need to press and hold the little button on the front of the receiver beside the CAM interface slot.

5) Apply power and keep pressing the button until the receiver show the "flsh" message. Release the button and allow the receiver to flash. This may take a couple of minutes.

6) When the receiver is finished flashing, it will display the "boot" message. You can now remove the USB memory stick and follow the wizard setup.

7) You can exit the wizard setup at this point or follow the procedure and setup your language, network, tuners, video display, etc. If you exit at this point, you can always enter setup later from the main menu and configure everything. We will cover the most important configurations in other tutorials.
