3.0: Introduction
If your Enigma 2 satellite receiver has an ATSC tuner for local terrestrial reception, you will need to configure it before you can scan for OTA channels. Having an ATSC tuner is handy because you can combine satellite and local OTA channels in a single EPG guide and take advantage of the DVR and other features of your Enigma 2 receiver!
3.1: ATSC Tuner Setup
To configure your ATSC tuner, start up your receiver and press MENU on the remote. Select SETUP and SERVICE SEARCHING. Select TUNER CONFIGURATION and in our case, pick TUNER C: MSB1237(ATSC).
Edit the atsc tuner settings as follows
Configuration Mode = enabled
ATSC Provider = ATSC Terrestrial TV - 8VSB
Save your ATSC tuner configuration by pressing the OK button or green button on the remote. Let's exit and try scanning some terrestrial channels.
3.2: Scanning Terrestrial OTA Channels
Within SERVICE SEARCHING, select AUTOMATIC SCAN.
Select yes for scanning Tuner C (ATSC) ATSC Terrestrial TV - 8VSB. Select no for scanning other satellite tuners to save time, otherwise, the receiver will scan all tuners set to yes. If you want the receiver to clear any previously scanned channels, select yes.
The receiver will begin scanning local OTA channels. It may take several minutes to do this.
Exit the SERVICE SEARCHING menu by pressing the exit button several times on your remote. Channel up/down or press the epg button on the remote to view your local channels.
3.3: Checking Signal Strength
To check the signal strength of an OTA signal or to adjust the antenna for such a signal, go to the SERVICE SEARCHING menu and select SIGNAL FINDER. Select Tuner C.
You can either enter your own frequency or check predefined ones. You can also press OK or the green button to scan any new channels you may find.
3.4: Digital Cable (256 QAM) Tuner Configuration
If you have access to a digital cable subscription, it may also be possible to scan any unscrambled channels. Go back to the TUNER CONFIGURATION menu and configure Tuner C for ATSC Cable TV - 256 QAM. Please note that this will not work for all digital cable systems. You may also have to flash your receiver with the latest OpenPLi image which supports North American QAM modulation schemes. If you are outside of North America, you need to flash your receiver with OpenATV and use a tuner that supports the DVB-C standard.
