9.0: Introduction

After you spend countless hours and days customizing your Enigma 2 receiver with your channel lists, tuner settings, video settings, epg settings, skin settings and plugins and their add-ons, you will certainly want to backup all your settings in case you have to re-flash or upgrade the receiver image.

We recommend you backup your settings on a USB memory stick.

9.1: Backup System Settings

Go to: Setup > Software Management > Backup System Settings

Press OK on your remote and your backup settings will be saved.

9.3: Image Backup

You also have the option of backing up your current image if you wish. Keep in mind that developers are always releasing new and improved images, so this backup isn't so critical. However, future image upgrades may sometimes break some code or abandon features that were working fine in your current image (e.g. a certain plugin or extension), so this would be a good justification for the current image backup.

Go to: Setup > Software Management > Backup Image

Select where to backup the image: HDD or USB.

It can take a few minutes to back up the image!

9.4: Upgrade Image and Restore Settings

From time to time, you will certainly want to upgrade your Enigma 2 image to take advantage of bug fixes, new drivers and new developments. Fortunately, this is really easy to do and your personal settings are preserved.

Go to: Setup > Software Management > Flash Online

Press the green Online button.

After the available images have loaded, scroll down the list and select one of the most recent ones by date.

Press the green Flash button.

Select yes to backup your present settings.

Your receiver will start downloading the image you selected...

Once your receiver is ready to be flashed with the new image, you will be prompted with a list of choices for restoring your personal settings and plugins. Read them carefully and select what is appropriate for your case. In my case, I selected choice 3 because I only wanted to re-install certain plugins.

Select the plugins you want re-installed.

The upgrade is now complete and your receiver will re-boot. If all went according to plan, you will have the latest image installed along with your personal settings and selected plugins. Try out your settings and plugins to ensure they are compatible with the new image. If you encounter any problems, try reverting back to another image, such as the one you backed up in section 9.3.
