Hey all,
Just in case your curious about Direct TV's Ka band format, here's how they do it:
They split the Ka downlink into 2 segments 18.3 - 18.8 Ghz ( Low ) and 19.7 - 20.2 Ghz ( High )
Direct uses a unique system ( DSS ) as opposed to DVB so you can't see it on a standard FTA receiver.
The Ka band programming which is HD is on 2 Sat's 99.2W / 102.8W.
At the receive end the Ka band LNB's have an L.O. Freq. of 18.05 Ghz which yields 2 separate I F
bands 1650 - 2150 Mhz and 250 -750 Mhz. The design I F Freq of the Direct TV receiver is 950 - 2150 Mhz.
So you can see that it's necessary to upconvert the 250 - 750 Mhz I F. This is done with the "B band
converter". It has a 2400 Mhz L.O. so the output Freq is now 1650 - 2150 Mhz ( just like the other Ka I F )
Direct TV handles their Ku band signal 12.2 - 12.7 Ghz in a more conventional manner utilizing a
standard L.O. Freq of 11.25 Ghz which yields an I F of 950 - 1450 Mhz.

elko,
No sorry to say nothing ITC...... You can't even get the TP's to scan in because their
DSS ( a unique format ) as opposed to DVB !
In my humble opinion Direct TV goes to extreme's for security !

Re: Direct TV Ka band
Their audio was never encrypted and I think it's still ITC. I used to use a card and the DSS to DVB plugin and was able to listen to their whole lineup. Once I ended up getting Sirius XM it really wasn't worth playing with anymore.
10' Tek C-band dish, 1.2 meter KU band dish, ASC1 mover, Octagon/Zgemma/Edison dual band STB's. Running OpenPli on all.
