Hahaha. Dish/Nagra got the communist fist from an iptv pirate! :therethere

Unfortunately, justice is nothing other than the advantage of the stronger. Always has been and always will be. In this case, Charlie is stronger, which means Jr. and his mamma will get ruined financially. Charlie is also stronger than the poor saps who subscribed to this unauthorized service, which means they will all be paying $3500. You can bet on it. :whipping

When you think about it, only a single man, Rupert Murdoch, has prevailed in pirating Charlie and licking him in court too. Does that mean the universal law of justice mentioned is invalid or does it mean Rupert is stronger than Charlie in the (globalist) hierarchy? :scratchingmyhead:

While you ponder the above, it should be noted that all these underground iptv streams seem to originate from Dish. The pirates are on the run and Dish is suing and demanding hefty payments from the end users. Strong electronic counter measures are also making these services pretty much worthless. The end appears to be nigh for unauthorized iptv.

If you are new to this forum, you can avoid this circus :jester and save yourself $3500 in fines by doing the following:

1. Planting a steel pole in your backyard;

2. Installing a C-Band dish on the pole;

3. Tuning the dish;

4. Watching TV

It is really that simple. Leave the circus behind and get back to watching TV legally. :bigsmile

Is there a reason why these illegal IPTV resellers always pick Dish Network as their company of choice? Are there ones using other companies like DirecTV or a cable company TV package to feed their service, and we just don't hear about them because Dish Network is the only company that pursues these IPTV resellers?

Dish Network uses Nagravision 3 which doesn't seem any easier to compromise than the encryption on the C-band channels or the encryption that they use on cable company TV systems.

In fact, I would think that reselling a cable company's package (especially a cable company that flags most channels as "Copy Freely" like Verizon FiOS) with a server that was running a bunch of HDHomeRun Primes would be a far easier route to take than reselling Dish Network's TV packages which use Nagravision 3 and have no official PC tuner card support.

The cable companies commissioned an investigation into illicit streaming and concluded that card sharing was to blame. You can read the report for yourself:

https://www.scte.org/documents/Knowledg ... _paper.pdf

The CCcam/Card Sharing server infrastructure that fuels the live video stream portion of the pirate
ecosystem is based on a weakness of the DVB-CSA protocol. Within this protocol, a Smart Card decrypts
the ECM (Entitlement Control Message), which then provides the control word, allowing viewing of
scrambled material. With Card Sharing, however, the Smart Card and its security features are bypassed:
Software performs a network intercept of the decrypted control word and allows the user to share it across
a computer network. This has not only grown in popularity but has also morphed into a commercial pay
service for storage and access to these controls words. Several newer conditional access technologies are
commercially available that have gained varying degrees of success when implemented. If employed
more broadly, they could reduce the availability of pirated live video by well over 70%. This in and of
itself would make it much more difficult for the add-on authors to provide live content, and will
simultaneously drive more development of alternate bulk streaming methods. Addressing the fundamental
issues involves the changing of laws (which this paper won’t go into) and updating of conditional access
systems.

Below are a few of the commercially available satellite encryption solutions that eliminate control word
sharing. There are others, and this paper does not advocate a specific brand or technology -- only that the
ability to share control words must be addressed, if the industry is to protect the value of the content. It’s
also noteworthy that most conditional access systems will be breached at some point, which drives the
continual development of secure technologies.

Nagra’s anyCast COMMAND and CONNECT resolves the control word sharing issue by securely
passing video from Broadcom’s SoC to NAGRA’s secure component for decryption and descrambling.
This eliminates the passing of the decrypted control word, as well as the ability to share it. In a press
release describing the technology, NAGRA said this: “The unification of decryption and descrambling
into a single piece of silicon not only exponentially increases the security of the CAS system, but also
simplifies integration by reducing much of the STB testing and certification that was required when these
two elements were separated.”

Another single-silicon approach is NDS’s VideoGuard. DirecTV has had great success in thwarting
piracy through the latest (P4/P5) generation of the technology. While earlier versions were hacked, the
latest versions have not yet been cracked with software. Some pirates are doing reverse engineering on
them already, but that workaround involves removing a chip from one STB and putting it into another.
Notably (and intentionally), VideoGuard chips will not update themselves unless they are in their original
STB -- which requires reverse engineers to return the VideoGuard chip to its rightful place for several
hours at a time, in order to update itself with the latest channels and services. That makes scaling this
hack far too laborious for mass production.

I posted this a while back. Nagra never implemented anyCast on the Dish Network system. At least not yet. This would explain why Dish Network is the source of most of the streaming piracy today. DirecTV seems to have a better security system in place which doesn't easily lend itself to card sharing. The cable companies are probably not targeted by the streaming pirates because watermarking could quickly lead back to the address of service. Also I don't think any cable company would ever authorize more than 5 STBs per address. It would need to be an MDU account and they will want to know who you are before doing business with you. An MDU contractor for DirecTV did try this scam and was sued and shut down a while back.

If someone needs to watch certain things that badly just get the stupid subscription and be done with it. Is it worth getting nailed with a 3K or more judgement from a court that will rubber stamp the complaint or all the hassle they can make for you? More than enough content for me between the big and little dishes as well as Youtubes, ect. It's bad enough to have to endure most of the stupid commercials let alone have to pay for the subscription on top of it. We get enough commercials for free on the big dish without adding insult to injury and having to pay for it as well. That is a biggest reason that if I can find an uplink for an event and bypass broadcast I'll do that any day.

I agree. A C band dish gives you access to an equivalent 'basic cable' package plus wild feeds. It is more than enough TV for any sane person. Sometimes the premium channels go in the clear and you can watch those too, but if you are addicted to premium content, you will just have to subscribe and pay for it thru the nose like everyone else.

As for the lawsuits, letters and law enforcement raids on IPTV, unfortunately, I think those will continue until they dismantle the entire piracy network. The millennial's are out of control with their streaming apps and Charlie is cracking the whip. :lol: If you get caught up in this dragnet, your best way out is probably just to pay up. The lawyers will want $10k or more in retainer fees and there is no guarantee that you will win your case. If you lose, you are looking at $100k per violation plus the legal fees of your adversary. Directv employed a similar strategy to discourage piracy many moons ago. If you are a lawyer facing this issue, you may want to research those cases to see what you can do for your client.

Good luck to everyone affected.
