HBO 4K on 58W

Post by fatso » Fri Sep 07, 2018 1:38 am

It looks like HBO will start broadcasting its linear content in 4K very soon. If you have a 4K receiver, you can view their 4K preview channel now:

Thanks, fatso! Got a lock on it and bit rate viewer on the zgemma is reporting 16 Mbps / HEVC. I guess this will be the standard transmission rate for 4K content. The promos look good and I can hardly wait to watch Passengers in 4K. Hope this channel sticks around for a while. Also got Love Nature 4K going on 43west...keep them coming fatso and cheers!!! :toasting

Check your settings and tuner configuration on the dreambox. This is a standard, run-of-the-mill 4K signal which all UHD capable receivers should be able to display.

The HBO mux is a bit weaker than some of the others on 58W, but a 12-footer should have no problem picking it up. Even a 10-footer should be fine.

I checked it all...:(
signal is ok because on the old receiver HD is pretty high signal.

i have all 4K channels in 101.0W with a very high signal.

but this HBO 4K is zero...

maybe because SymbolRate is very high ? but i checked in manual this DREAMBOX have up to 45Mb/s...
but i install ENIGMA2, maybe this is change something ?

i don't know...:(

The HBO mux was recently converted to 16APSK:

4080 H 32700
DVB-S2 16APSK
3/4 FEC
Pilot ON
19 HEVC channels

If I remember right, the DM900 4K box from Dream Media didn't support 16APSK / 32APSK. This was a major drawback for the receiver. The 4K signals on 101w are 8PSK, which explains why you can receive them.

If HBO is going 16APSK /h.265 with UHD content, it is possible the others will follow suit and this will be the new standard. Fatso said the signal was weaker but this isn't true. They are transmitting the same power, but because they switched to 16APSK modulation, you need more gain to decode it.

If anyone is interested, our sponsors sell the 'ZGemma H7' UHD (North American) receiver which can process the 16 apsk / hevc / 4K signals like HBO. :bigsmile You know this is a top of the line receiver when a certain "pay-tv" provider :hehehe: has to go around the web posting :bullshit about it.

This receiver doesn't need anyone to stand up for it because it speaks for itself every time the c-band community encounters a new type of signal. :thumbsup

No. Dream invented the linux box. All others copied it. Problem lies not with receiver but with tuner. HBO is only single programmer running single (promo) 4K channel using 16 apsk. It not make trend yet, but could. Doomsday is not here yet.
