Radio Astronomy and Ham Radio Forums

Post by tvroadmin » Mon Jul 23, 2018 5:05 am

All,

Some of you (amateur astronomers and universities) are buying large antennas for purposes other than TVRO. It seems people are using these antennas to bounce signals off the moon (Earth-Moon-Earth relays) and for radio astronomy research. Others are using these antennas to create communication relays around the earth using the ionosphere. To serve you better, we have added two new discussion forums:

Amateur Radio Astronomy Forum

Ham Radio Forum

Interesting to say the least! If you are active in these activities, please post your experiences in the appropriate forums so more people can learn about them and get involved.

It seems the US Navy was using the moon as a communications satellite (before artificial satellites) in the 1950s:

And this guy was mapping the radio frequency sky with a parabolic reflector in 1937:
