Very true indeed. The circular waveguide dimensions for C band are not optimum for Ku band, so the Ku signals probable experiences nearly 50% (or more) attenuation.
Hi Fatso,

Do you mean the diameter of the LNB should be different for Ku signals? The diameter of my C/ku lnb is just over 2 inches at teh front. When I unscrew the ku lnb from the back it measures around 1 inch. So you are saying that when the ku signal travels through the front part (2 inch tube) it gets attenuated? Is that correct? The proper diameter should be 1 inch for Ku band?

Yup, the width of the waveguide is the cause of your ku band blues...You need to separate your bands like most of us here have done.

Eldorado,

My suggestion is to retrofit the scalar ring and attach the Ku band LNB adjacent to the C band LNB. This will improve your reception dramatically for both bands. Some people have done this and posted pictures - you should do a google search.

Something like this:

But you guys are right about the performance of a dual C and Ku band LNB together in one - there is some performance degradation. I simply use two dishes - one for C and one for Ku.
8ft C/Ku Band Tek2000 Mesh Dish (8W to 91W)
24 inch SuperJack Actuator
10ft C/Ku Band Tek2000 Mesh Dish (40W to 139W)
36 inch SuperJack Actuator
Azbox Premium HD+ PVR
OpenBoxS10
DreamBox800SE
Scanning 8 West to 139 West...

Very helpful review guys. I will definately consider satellites gallore if I upgrade to a larger dish in the future.

There are hardly any quality suppliers of large mesh dishes these days...

Thanks for the review eldorado!

We have sold hundreds of these mesh dishes over the past few months and our customers have been very happy with their performance.

We look forward to selling hundreds more and will continue to be a sponsor of this forum.

Well, I can report that my 10ft mesh dish survived 65mph sustained winds this past weekend. The worst we've experienced so far this year!

I visually inspected the dish and there was no damage. The sat positions were out of sync (about 15 clicks), but I resynced them and checked the signals quality on most sats and it was about the same as before.
